A U.S. Department of State program that awards up to $5,000 to American undergraduates with high financial need to study or intern abroad for academic credit. Nearly 3,000 awards are made each academic year, with supplemental funding available for critical need language study and STEM coursework abroad. The fall application cycle closes October 1, 2026.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals enrolled as undergraduates in good standing at an accredited U.S. institution. They must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application or during their term abroad, and must be applying to or accepted into a credit-bearing study abroad or internship program. The application includes four required short essays and certification by study abroad and financial aid advisors.
